A Strategy for EIARD 2005 - 2010 (Oct 2004)
The international community has committed itself to achieving the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and agriculture contributes directly to MDGs 1 and 7, and indirectly to MDGs 2, 4, 6, and 8. Enhancing the knowledge base of the agricultural sector in developing countries through agricultural research for development (ARD) is likely to have a major impact on sustainable development, reducing poverty, and enhancing food security and safety. There are strong "market failure" reasons for the continued use of development assistance for funding ARD.
